 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Welcome to the official Oklahoma Municipal Clerks, Treasurers, and Finance Officials Association (OMCTFOA) website!  It is my extreme pleasure to serve as your President for 2011.

OMCTFOA is a professional organization with approximately 500 members representing over 600 cities and towns from the 77 counties in Oklahoma.  OMCTFOA was established in 1957 to promote a better understanding of the official duties and obligations of its members; to develop and encourage uniform techniques and principles related to the specific duties of municipal clerks, treasurers, and finance officials; to develop, improve, exchange, and disseminate information, and; to promote programs and activities to enhance the welfare and progress of its members.

Each year OMCTFOA continues to provide educational opportunities through the Spring Institute held in March and the Annual Fall Conference held in October.  The Oklahoma Clerks and Treasurers Institute Advisory Committee works hand in hand with Oklahoma State University Center for Executive and Professional Development staff to provide outstanding educational sessions for the Spring Institute to ensure the sessions qualify for certification credits for the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) program and the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States & Canada (APT US&C) program.  The Master Municipal Clerks Academy was offered again this year with classes that qualified for Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) and Advanced Certified Public Finance Administrator (ACPFA) certifications. I would like to extend a great big thank-you to Mandy McKinney and all the staff at the OSU Spears School of Business for their hard work on making these programs a reality that continues to exist.

Members of the OMCTFOA Conference Planning Committee and the Executive Committee are charged with preparation of the fall conference.  Work began in January to prepare for the 55th Annual Fall Conference to be held October 26-28, 2011 at the Wes Watkins Center on the OSU campus.  In addition to credit sessions offered on the first day of the conference, a pre-conference will be held on Tuesday, October 25th to help those of you working toward certification.  The theme for the conference this year will be a circus theme titled “Under the Big Top at City Hall”.  The conference is shaping up to be both a great educational opportunity and a tremendously fun experience.

Oklahoma has accepted a challenge and is pleased to announce that we will host the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada’s National Conference this year.  This conference will be held in Oklahoma City on July 24-27, 2011 at the Renaissance Hotel and Cox Convention Center.  This is an exciting time for all of the Oklahoma organizations and numerous hours have gone into the planning of this event.  If you have not registered for the APT US & C conference, you may do so at www.omctfoa.com on the left hand side under Association of Public Treasurers.

I personally encourage each of you to get involved in OMCTFOA.  Volunteer to serve as a moderator at the spring institute or fall conference.  Check the box on your membership application stating you are willing to serve on the OMCTFOA Board or various committees.  It is a wonderful way to contribute back to the organization that provides so many educational opportunities for our membership.  I first had the opportunity to join the Oklahoma Association of Public Treasurers as a board member and a few years later, as OAPT president, I served as their representative on the OMCTFOA Board.  That was my first glimpse of the time and effort donated by each board member.  Until you become actively involved, it is difficult to describe the dedication and endless hours your board members contribute to provide annual educational opportunities to the membership.  Many people never pay attention to the bottom of our membership application.  Please look at the opportunities available for you to serve and let us know if you are interested in doing so.  We would appreciate any and all help.

Once again, it is my extreme pleasure to serve as your 2011 OMCTFOA president and I look forward to seeing everyone at the National Conference in July and the Fall Conference in October.

Lisa Root, CMC, CFPA
